BIOGRAPHY

David Fernández Alonso was born in 1978 in Vigo (Spain) and received his first horn lessons at the age of eleven. Since 1992 he attended the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Vigo, and from 2004 he studied in the class of Prof. Will Sanders at the Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe. As an orchestral musician, he has played in the National Youth Orchestra of Spain JONDE under Carlo Maria Giulini, the European Union Youth Orchestra under Bernard Haitink, the Gustav Mahler Youth Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa and Pierre Boulez, and the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, among others. With the wind quintet "Mirò-Ensemble" he won the 1st prize and the audience prize at the ARD music competition in Munich in 2001. In 2006 he was the first prize winner of the university competition of the Rectors' Conference of the Music Universities of the Federal Republic of Germany for the subject horn. A graduate of Prof. Will Sanders' class, he is now principal horn of the Rotterdam Philharmonic Orchestra and performs worldwide as a soloist and chamber musician.
