Karlsruhe klingt – music to go!

The festival in the heart of the city

Samba Batucada

A small anniversary is coming up: Karlsruhe klingt - music to go" will take place for the tenth time. On the second Saturday in July, over 100 students and lecturers from the Karlsruhe University of Music will swarm into the city centre. Even the opening at 2 p.m. on the market square is likely to be a crowd puller, as the big band under the direction of Peter Lehel will beckon with groovy sound. Spread over various stations - the Kleine Kirche to the east, the Christuskirche to the west - there will be a wide variety of offerings, from small chamber music with viola and cello, for example, to saxophone or trombone ensembles, to anarchic "absurdities" with Dada poetry by the Institute for Music Theatre.  Several song duos perform and the results of Annette Postel's chanson master class are presented. Astor Piazzolla's L'histoire du Tango, with its four sections: brothel, café, nightclub and concert, will be performed with a line-up that differs from the original in that the flute will be replaced by an instrument that, at 47, is clearly more "multi-stringed": the harp. The percussionist Leonie Klein invites us to computer music without computers under the motto "Embodied Algorithms". Samba Batucada may not be missing either: Isao Nakamura will conjure up a Brazilian feeling of life in Karlsruhe city centre with pipes and drums and demonstrate his pied piper qualities. Thanks to the underground, his percussion class will be able to let off steam on Kaiserstraße. The final concert will take place in Karlsruhe's good parlour: Under the direction of Will Sanders, the Symphonic Wind Orchestra will round off the festival from 7 pm.

"Music to go" is an event organised by KME Karlsruhe Marketing und Event GmbH as part of its cooperation marketing and in collaboration with the Karlsruhe University of Music.
