Richard Strauss (1864-1949) Horn Concerto No. 2 in E flat major
60 years after his 1st Horn Concerto, Strauss composed his 2nd Horn Concerto, which, like the first, begins with a fanfare-like cadenza by the soloist and then enters into a dialogue with the woodwinds, who also dominate the idyllic slow movement. The lively, final Rondo "even turned out quite nicely", said Richard Strauss.

György Kurtág (geb. 1926) Movement from the Viola Concerto
The Viola Concerto was Kurtág's graduation work from the Budapest Academy of Music (1953/54). Its two movements are reminiscent of rhapsodies. Harmonically and melodically it is reminiscent of Bartók's Violin Concerto. The first movement, Allegro molto moderato, can also be performed separately as a "movement".

Robert Schumann (1810–1856) Concerto for Violoncello and Orchestra in A minor op. 129
"Concertstück für Violoncell mit Begleitung des Orchesters" (Concert Piece for Violoncello with Orchestra Accompaniment) is written in Robert Schumann's autograph score and this title is already appropriate because of the seamless transitions between the three movements. Schumann described the work in a letter to a publisher as a "thoroughly cheerful piece". In the first movement, with its sweeping main theme and playful secondary theme, Schumann exploited the cello's possibilities in all registers. In the middle movement, a solo cello from the orchestra joins in, and in the technically tricky final Rondo, soloist and orchestra play thematic balls to each other.
