Wider das Verlöschen · Against extinction
This is the story of a man who longs to be remembered after his own death.
after his own death. Only in the spirit of future generations does he believe he can live forever. One day, death surprises him in the form of a woman who tells him that his lifetime is over. She wants to take him to another world. He asks for a reprieve and embarks on a wild journey: He soars to become a leading politician; he attempts to create masterpieces of art; he rises to become a religious leader. In three ways, he braces himself against being forgotten, accepts many injuries. The woman accompanies him, is a counterpart to him with her own history, is partner, stranger and seductress. Will he succeed in giving his existence a lasting, deep meaning?
Along the path the evening takes, musical traces of Beethoven, Mahler and the resonant Orientalism of Gurdjieff & De-Hartmann emerge alongside Wagner. A chamber ensemble accompanies the tenor and mezzo-soprano on their journey into the interior.
