Die Pianistin Dinorah Varsi
Dinorah Varsi (1939–2013)

Dinorah Varsi was considered a child prodigy and performed in concerts at an early age, encouraged by Erich Kleiber among others. She spent time in the USA in the early 1960s, then went to Paris and Switzerland to study with Géza Anda. Most recently she lived in Davos and Berlin. She won the Jorge de Lalewicz Competition in Buenos Aires in 1959, first prize at the Maria Canals International Music Competition in 1962, and the Clara Haskil International Piano Competition in Lucerne in 1967. As part of her international career, which included concerts with leading symphony orchestras and conductors, she also served as a jury member at piano competitions and gave master classes. At the end of the 1970s, she again withdrew completely from concert life and effectively fell into oblivion. In the 1980s she resumed her concert activities and performed in Berlin, Munich and Prague, at the Schleswig-Holstein Music Festival, the Echternach International Music Festival and the Ruhr Piano Festival. From 1990 to 1996 she held a teaching position at the Karlsruhe University of Music.
Dinorah Varsi died in Berlin in June 2013 at the age of 73.
