Klaus Steffes-Holländer (*1966) was musically trained in many ways from an early age. From 1987 to 1991 he studied piano in Cologne with Aloys Kontarsky. A DAAD scholarship abroad helped him to continue his studies in Paris with Gérard Frémy and Claude Helffer. In addition, he deepened his education with Paul Badura-Skoda. His special interest is contemporary music. Since 1995 he has been the pianist of the ensemble recherche Freiburg, one of the leading ensembles for new music worldwide. Since 1999, he has been working with what is now the SWR Symphony Orchestra. With Joachim Haas, he founded the Duo Haoka in 2014, in which acoustic piano sounds and live electronics meet. Solo performances have taken him to the music centers of Europe as well as to Japan, China and South America with classical and contemporary repertoire. He has worked with conductors such as Michael Gielen, Sylvain Cambreling, Hans Zender, Francois-Xavier Roth, Peter Rundel, Matthias Pintscher and Johannes Kalitzke. Occasionally he makes excursions into the world of jazz music or plays with free improvising groups. For about twenty years he has also been active as a photographer, primarily of musicians' portraits.
