Professor Hartmut Höll
Rector of the University of Music Karlsruhe

Since October 2007, Hartmut Höll has served as rector of the University of Music Karlsruhe.

As a professor of song interpretation at the University of Music Karlsruhe, Hartmut Höll is closely associated with the young generation of artists whom he mentored during professorships at Frankfurt and Cologne. Graduates who benefited from his instruction continue the lieder tradition as teachers in Freiburg, Salzburg, Vienna, Paris, and elsewhere. In 1998/1999, Höll taught as visiting professor in Helsinki; from 1994 to 2003, he was visiting professor at the University Mozarteum Salzburg; for almost a decade, he also taught lied interpretation at the Zurich University of the Arts as the successor to Irwin Gage.

In 1990, Hartmut Höll received the Robert Schumann Prize from the city of Zwickau. He is an honorary member of the Robert Schumann Society Zwickau.

From 1985 to 2007, Hartmut Höll was artistic director of the International Hugo Wolf Academy for Singing • Poetry • Song Artistry in Stuttgart, which did exemplary cultural work under his leadership.

In 2012, his memoir WordMusic (WortMusik) was published by Staccato-Verlag Düsseldorf, in which Hartmut Höll describes his experiences, approaches to song, and personal recollections.
