Successes of the IMT students

Haitham Assem Tantawy, MA graduate of the MusicTheatreDirecting programme, has been working as a stage manager and assistant director at the Deutsche Oper am Rhein Düsseldorf/Duisburg since the 2022/23 season. In the last season he was in charge of Wagner's Flying Dutchman (director: Vasily Barkhatov), Tchaikovsky's Maid of Orleans (director: Elisabeth Stöppler), Bellini's Sonnambula (director: Johannes Erath) and Massenet's Hérodiade (director: Lorenzo Fioroni). In the 2023/24 season, his responsibilities include the premiere of Tchaikovsky's Eugene Onegin (director: Michael Thalheimer) and overseeing the world premiere of Manfred Trojahn's Septembersonate (director: Johannes Erath).

Chiara Caforio

Chiara Caforio, BA graduate of the MusicTheatreDirecting programme, has been engaged as evening director and assistant director at the Nuremberg State Theatre since the 2022/23 season. Among the plays she supervised in her first season were Turing by Anno Schreier (director: Jens-Daniel Herzog), Falstaff (director: David Hermann), Die Herzogin von Gerolstein (director: Andreas Kriegenburg) and La Cenerentola (director: Jan-Philipp Gloger). In the 2023/24 season she will again work with Jens-Daniel Herzog (Mathis der Maler) and David Hermann (Parsifal), as well as with Marko Štorman (Die Fledermaus). She is also overseeing the revival of Peter Konwitschny's production of Trovatore.

Jacob Kressin

Tenor Jacob Kressin, a graduate of the Master's programme in Opera Singing at the Institute for MusicTheatre (class of Prof. Christiane Libor and Prof. Stephan Klemm) will become a member of the Opera Studio at the Gärtnerplatztheater in Munich from the 2023/24 season.

Henriette Schein

Soprano Henriette Schein, a graduate of the Master's programme in Opera Singing at the Institute for Music Theatre (class of Prof. Christiane Libor and Prof. Stephan Klemm) will become a permanent member of the ensemble at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe from the 2023/24 season. There she will sing Despina in Mozart's "Cosi Fan tutte", 1st Elf in Dvorak's "Rusalka", Isotta in "Die schweigsame Frau" by R. Strauss, the Shepherd in "Tannhäuser" by R. Wagner, Papagena in "The Magic Flute" by W. A. Mozart, Taumännchen in "Hansel and Gretel" by E. Humperdinck and in the children's opera "Schaf" by Sophie Kassies.

Yukari Fukui

The soprano Yukari Fukui, student of the soloist examination opera singing at the Institute for MusicTheatre and class of Prof. Müller-Brachmann, won the special prize of the Mozarteum Foundation Salzburg for the best interpretation of a vocal work by W. A. Mozart at the 15th International Mozart Competition Salzburg 2023. Yukari Fukui was accompanied by Yuan Ma, soloist exam Liedgestaltung Klavier, class Heike-Dorothee Allardt.

Florian Tavic

Florian Tavic, baritone and student in the final semester of his Master's degree in opera singing, will take up a permanent engagement at Theater Nordhausen from the 2023/24 season. His roles there will include Count Almaviva in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro, Zurga in Bizet's Les pecheurs des perles and Ping in Puccini's Turandot. As a guest at the Badisches Staatstheater, Florian Tavic will also embody the roles of Morales in Bizet's Carmen and the 2nd Nazarene in Richard Strauss' Salome.

Ivon Mateljan

Mezzo-soprano Ivon Mateljan, a Master's graduate in opera singing (class of Prof. Christian Elsner), has been a member of the Thuringian Opera Studio since the beginning of the 2022/23 season. She already made her debut at Erfurt Theatre on 8 October in the role of the 2nd Maid in Richard Strauss' Elektra. This season Ivon Mateljan will embody Hansel in Hansel and Gretel, Niklausse in The Tales of Hoffmann, Erma in Anything Goes and Hannah in The Passenger on stage at Theater Altenburg Gera.

Soprano Lisa Wittig, a Master's graduate in opera singing (class of Prof. Christiane Libor), has been a member of the soloist ensemble at the Theater und Philharmonie Essen since the beginning of the 2022/23 season. There she will embody the roles of Pamina in Mozart's Die Zauberflöte, the fishmonger Annina in Johann Strauss' Eine Nacht in Venedig and Susanna in Mozart's Le nozze di Figaro on stage.

The performance dates are:

Jasmin Etminan

Jasmin Etminan, a student in the Master of Opera Singing (class of Prof. Christiane Libor), is the first recipient of the Anneliese Fried Contralto Scholarship in Karlsruhe 2022. The scholarship runs for two years and is linked to a two-year engagement at the Badisches Staatstheater. Jasmin Etminan will therefore sing and perform the role of Mary in Der fliegende Holländer, the Third Lady in Die Zauberflöte, Page of Herodias in Salome as well as Margret in Wozzeck on stage in the 2022/23 season.

Sebastian Köppl, tenor and student of Bachelor Opera Singing (class of Prof. Christiane Libor), is on leave of absence for the winter semester 2022/23, as he has received an engagement at the Mecklenburg State Theatre. This season he will be performing Heinrich der Schreiber in Wagner's Tannhäuser, the Electrician in Adès Powder Her Face, the Schulmeister in Janacek's Das Schlaue Füchslein and both Monostatos and 1.Geharnischter in Mozart's Zauberflöte.
