Music Journalism for Radio, Television and Internet

In the bachelor's and master's degree programs, the Institute for Music Journalism prepares students to become music journalists mediating threefold electronic media in radio, television, and internet. While the six semester bachelor's degree program primarily teaches basic knowledge of music, journalism, and production technology, the four semester master's degree program focuses on projects and collaborations, especially possibilities of new types of information transfer through media.

The Institute for Music Journalism distinguishes itself from other courses with a similar theme in Germany insofar as it is the only German music academic institution with an FM transmission frequency (104.8 MHz) in addition to web streaming, through which lectures and seminars in the Karlsruhe area, workshops and projects may be broadcast live and pre-produced 45 hours weekly from a dedicated radio broadcasting studio. In addition, students produce television and video contributions, broadcasts and presentation elements in a virtual 3D video production studio, which are then broadcast in cooperation with regional television programs. The high level of practical relevance means that, in addition to the demanding scientific-based training, students acquire a high degree of broadcasting and production technology competence. Graduates become sought-after moderators, contributors, editors, and producers with national and international broadcasters, online editors, media companies, and independent production companies for video and television.
