Laura Streckert (class of Prof. Christiane Libor) received a 1st prize for the best Beethoven interpretation and a 2nd prize in the category Special Prize New Music at the Beethoven Bonnensis Competition in Bonn.

Katharina Bierweiler (also class of Prof. Christiane Libor) has received the sponsorship prize of the Walter and Charlotte Hamel Foundation at the National Singing Competition.

Yuriko Watanabe has been selected as the pianist for Thomas Hampson's support program at the Heidelberg Spring Festival. 
Tenor Zhuohan Sun and Yuriko Watanabe, piano, have been selected for the SongStudio at New York's Carnegie Hall and will work with Renée Fleming and others for a week in January 2023 and perform in New York.
The two young artists study in the Lied class of Prof. Dr. h. c. Mitsuko Shirai and Prof. Hartmut Höll.

At this year's national competition "Jugend musiziert" the special prize of Gretel Sütterlin was awarded for an outstanding performance in the category Special Instrumentations: Early Music was awarded. 2022 Georg Schäfer (harpsichord, early music V) from the piano class of Prof. Sontraud Speidel received it.

Two PreCollege students from the PreCollege won 1st prize in the piano and a woodwind instrument category at the national competition "Jugend musiziert" in Oldenburg: Leonhard Ehrlich (oboe, class of Prof. Juri Vallentin) and Georg Schäfer (piano, class of Prof. Sontraud Speidel). Both study in the chamber music class of Prof. Roberto Domingos. Also in the category "Special instrumentations: Early Music" Georg Schäfer won a 1st prize.

The flutist Constance Sannier (graduate of the class of Prof. Pirmin Grehl) won the audition for the position of principal flutist of the Südwestdeutsche Philharmonie Konstanz.

At this year's Dr. Hermann Büttner Piano Competition for solo piano, Soojung Daria Kim and Matteo Weber (both class of Prof. Sontraud Speidel) as well as JiHun Hong and Robert Toshiki Esau (both in the class of Prof. Roberto Domingos) received four "uniform prizes" and prize money of EUR 2,500 each. The class of Prof. Roberto Domingos also received two promotional prizes of 1,000 EUR each to Mingjie Guo and Yesol Suh.

Robert Toshiki Esau (class of Prof. Roberto Domingos) received the 2nd prize at the Franz Liszt Center International Piano Competition La Nucia.

Johannes Antoni (Conducting Class Prof. Matthias Beckert), has been appointed Choral Director with conducting duties at the Theater in Pforzheim, Germany, after holding the position of Assistant Choral Director and Solo Repetiteur with conducting duties for one year.

Mezzo-soprano Ivon Mateljan (class of Prof. Christian Elsner) will be a member of the Thuringian Opera Studio from the 2022/23 season. Before that, as a prize winner of the 2022 Rheinsberg Chamber Opera Singing Competition, she will make her debut as Agnes in Smetana's "The Bartered Bride" in the summer.

WooRim Lee (soloist exam class of Prof. Roberto Domingos) was awarded a "Diploma di Merito" at the 25th International Piano Competition 'Mauro Paolo Monopoli Prize' in Barletta, Italy. Previously, she had won the Masters Orchestra International Concerto Competition 2022 in Brescia. As a prize winner, she will play Chopin's E minor Piano Concerto there on May 29. She also received a first prize in the Duo category (with Duui Kang, violin) at the Tiziano Rossetti Competition in Lugano (Switzerland).

Seongchang Lee (Bassoon, class of Prof. David Tomàs-Realp) won 1st prize with the Astin Woodwind Quintet at the 11th Artsylvia Chamber music Audition in South Korea. The Astin Ensemble includes music students from other colleges in addition to Seongchang Lee: Minjin Cho (flute, Freiburg), Eunjeong Yoon (oboe, Bremen), Songhee Park (clarinet, Düsseldorf) and Sanghyun Jo (horn, Mannheim).

Soprano Franziska Fait (class of Prof. Hanno Müller-Brachmann) won a 2nd prize at the Lions Music Award 2022. The 1st prize with forwarding to the final in Cologne was won by Louise Lotte Edler, also from the class of Prof. Hanno-Müller Brachmann.

Alma Unseld (soprano, Lied class Prof. Dr. h. c. Mitsuko Shirai and Prof. Hartmut Höll) has received a sponsorship award for her own compositions (three songs) submitted to the national competition "Jugend komponiert" of the Jeunesses Musicales.

Frank Dupree  (alumnus of the Karlsruhe University of Music, piano class Prof. Sontraud Speidel) has been awarded at the International Classical Music Awards (ICMA) together with violinist Rosanne Philippens and the Württemberg Chamber Orchestra Heilbronn in the category "Kapustin: Orchestral Works" for the CD recording (Capriccio) of the 4th Piano Concerto and the Double Concerto for Violin, Piano and Strings by Nikolai Kapustin.

The Brass Quintet with Jón Vielhaber, GoEun Park (trumpets, class of Prof. Reinhold Friedrich), Felipe Santos Freitas da Silva (horn, class of Prof. Will Sanders), Akari Yamane (trombone, class of Prof. Brandt Attema) and Jeongbin Im (tuba, class of Prof. Dirk Hirthe) has won the 2nd prize (8,000 EUR) at the International Brass Chamber Music Competition in Jeju (South Korea). The competition was held online.

At this year's Heinz Kunle Competition of the Freundeskreis der Hochschule für Musik Karlsruhe e. V. (for vocal ensembles), Hyunjin Lim (soprano), Jasmin Désirée Schaff (mezzo-soprano) and David Gatchel (piano) were awarded third prize (€ 1,200). Franziska Fait (soprano), Cláudia Pereira (mezzo-soprano) and Zihao Lin (piano) were awarded the second prize (€2,000), and Maine Takeda (soprano), Marie Gerhardine Iguchi (mezzo-soprano) and Pedro Vidinha Pandeirada (piano) received the first prize of €3,200. The jury included renowned musicians and university professors: Martin Schmidt, professor emeritus of choral conducting, Peter Gortner, the cantor of the Christuskirche Karlsruhe, Stephan Hoffmann, lecturer in choral conducting, and Dr. h. c. Hans C. Hachmann, the chairman of the Friends of the Karlsruhe University of Music and former SWR2 chamber music editor.

The Brazilian Felipe Santos Freitas da Silva (horn, class of Prof. Will Sanders) won the first prize at the international competition Porcia di Citta (31st edition). Also the third prize of this competition went to a student of Will Sanders, namely to the Colombian Kevin López, who studies in Maastricht.

Four quartets won the Dr. Hermann Büttner Piano Competition 2021 (Piano Quartet): Two promotional prizes of €2,000 each went to the quartet with Katharina Kreutz (piano), Alexander Kozarov (violin), Silja Hofmann (viola) and Meri Yamashita (cello), to Yejin Ahn (piano), Jina Kim (violin), Jihye Lee (viola) and Ahram Woo (cello). The jury awarded two second prizes to WooRim Lee (piano), Natsumi Nakamura (violin), Jihye Lee (viola) and Yumin Lee (cello), and to Hyunhee Hwang (piano), Leo Esselson (violin), Hansol Lee (viola) and Gwangkyun Moon (cello). Both quartets can look forward to prize money of €6,000 each. No first prize was awarded. The jury of the competition, chaired by Dr. Hermann Büttner, included the pianist of the Fauré Quartet, Dirk Mommertz, as well as Christoph Schickedanz, professor of violin at the Hamburg University of Music and Theatre, and Dr. h.c. Hans Hachmann, former SWR2 chamber music editor.

In the competition for the Rainer Koch Memorial Prize of the Kulturfonds Baden e. V. for the best interpretation of a work by Wolfgang Rihm, the duo Jina Kim (violin) and Hyunhee Hwang (piano) – for "Hekton" – and the Trio Atria with Nina Muñoz Ramos (piano), Lucía Fernández (violin) and Álvaro Berlanga (cello) – for "Fremde Szene III" – each received a second prize (€ 1,500). The first prize (€2,000) was awarded to soprano Maine Takeda and pianist Uram Kim, who interpreted two songs from "Das Rot." The jury, chaired by Wolfgang Rihm, included Sontraud Speidel, Markus Hechtle and Mathias Tritsch, the president of the Kulturfonds Baden e. V.. Wolfgang Rihm said he was "very moved by the quality of all those who tackled the musical text".

Matteo Gobbini (piano, class of Prof. Saule Tatubaeva) won the 1st prize and an honorary diploma at the Concorso Pianistico Europeo "Sonja Pahor" in Italy and a 2nd prize at the 8th International Piano Competition "Città di San Donà di Piave".

Zhuohan Sun, tenor, and Sara Pavlovic, piano, both students of the Lied class Prof. Dr. h. c. Mitsuko Shirai and Prof. Hartmut Höll, participated in the Rising Stars Grand Prix International Music Competition 2021 and received a 1st prize in the category Chamber music, Lied duo: Senior (19 years and older). The competition took place online. The winners' concert at the Berlin Philharmonie was postponed until next year due to the covid pandemic.

The Trio Credo of the Karlsruhe University of Music with Mihyeok Gwon (piano, class of Prof. Ralf Gothóni), Yoerae Kim (violin, class of Prof. Christian Ostertag) and Jeongheon Nam (cello, class of Prof. László Fenyő)) were awarded 1st prize at the 10th Artsylvia Chamber music Audition 2021 in Seoul.

Jeongheon Nam and Mihyeok Gwon also won 1st prize for solo and chamber music at the Allegra String International Competition in Ruse, Bulgaria.

At the International Piano Competition CLAVIS with Presence Final in Füssen/Allgäu, Amy Reiss (class of Prof. Sontraud Speidel) won the 2nd prize of age group D (18 to 30 years) and also received a diploma for the best interpretation of a romantic work, a diploma for the best interpretation of a 20th/21st century work with an invitation to perform at the concert "Petersburg Composers Prize" at the International Music Festival "Earth of Children" in Saint Petersburg/Russia and the special prize from Zimmerli Sounds for a professional demo piano recording.

This semester she is completing her BA in music theatre directing, and in the autumn she will take up a permanent position at the Staatstheater Kassel: Marlene Pawlak will not only work there as a director and music theatre educator, but will ultimately take on the position of a mediator of music theatre. She is responsible for numerous interdisciplinary and intergenerational projects in which she contributes her expertise as a director. Marlene Pawlak is thus part of the core team of the new artistic director Florian Lutz. As her BA thesis, she had staged "Il segreto di Susanna" by Ermanno Wolf-Ferrari on the grounds of the Alter Schlachthof in Karlsruhe in May 2021. Her next production has been announced for August 2021, which she will stage together with Fabian Grimm (MA degree in music theatre directing in the summer semester 2021) and the Junge Kollektiv Musiktheater e.V.: Mozart's "Requiem" at the Frauenalb Monastery Ruins. Dates: 5, 6, 9 and 10 August 2021.

The Bundesverband Deutscher Gesangpädagogen (BDG) awards a special prize of 1,000 euros in the categories Musical and Duo: Kunstlied. 
In 2021, Alina Adam (Musical V) from Freiburg and the Lied duo Alma Unseld · David C. Heinz (Duo Kunstlied IV), both in PreCollege in the Lied class Prof. Dr. h. c. Mitsuko Shirai - Prof. Hartmut Höll and in the piano class Prof. Sontraud Speidel respectively, received it.

In view of the Corona pandemic, prizes were awarded for the first time this year in a purely digital competition at the International Robert Schumann Competition Zwickau. Of the 41 young pianists and singers in the final, the juries selected a total of 11 prize winners via video conference and awarded a special prize for song accompaniment, as the city announced. In the fall, the winners will have the opportunity to perform in front of an audience in Zwickau. A total of 147 musicians from 33 countries took part.
The Korean soprano Hyunseong Kang and the tenor Zhuohan Sun, who comes from Shanghai, as well as the Korean mezzo-soprano Soyeon Lee were named as prize winners of the Robert Schumann Competition 2021. All three singers study in the Lied class of Prof. Dr. h. c. Mitsuko Shirai and Hartmut Höll.
Hyunseong Kang was already First Prize Winner of the International Competition for 20th and 21st Century Song in 2019 in duo with pianist Uram Kim.
In 2020, the Liedduo Konstantin Ingenpaß · Hyun-wha Park had been awarded the First Prize at the International Hugo Wolf Competition.

Han Kim (class of Prof. Christian Elsner), who completed his Master's degree with distinction and is currently studying in the Soloist Examination programme, has signed a two-year contract as Lyric Bass at the Opera Studio of the Hamburg State Opera (from September 2021).

The Lied duo Alma Unseld (voice) and David Carl Heinz (piano, Precollege, class Prof. Sontraud Speidel), both also in the song class Prof. Hartmut Höll - Prof. Mitsuko Shirai, has just won the full score and thus a first prize at the national competition "Jugend musiziert" in age group IV.

Maria Kalmbach – alumna of the Karlsruhe University of Music – has just received an engagement as an alto in the renowned Calmus Ensemble. The five-member a cappella ensemble is of great international importance and has already been awarded an ECHO and an OPUS prize.

Already since October 2020, Marvin Stutz – alumnus of the Karlsruhe University of Music in the field of school music, majoring in percussion (class of Prof. Isao Nakamura) and performance major in orchestral conducting (class of Prof. Dieter Kurz) – has been working as deputy musical director and percussionist in the Baden-Württemberg State Police Orchestra.

Maria Grass (Master of School Music, major piano, class of Prof. Olga Rissin-Morenova) was accepted as a scholarship holder at the German National Academic Foundation 2021.

At the CLAVIS International Piano Competition Amy Reiss (class of Prof. Sontraud Speidel) won 1st prize Baroque and 2nd prize Modern in age group D. Charlotte Kaiser (PreCollege, class Prof. Sontraud Speidel) won 2nd prize Baroque and 2nd prize Classical in the age group C.

At the Baden-Württemberg state competition "Jugend musiziert", Sarah Hanyue Wang (student of Elisa Agudiez) and Georg Schäfer (PreCollege, class of Prof. Sontraud Speidel) won 1st prize in the piano four-hands age group IV category and were forwarded to the national competition. The Lied duo Alma Unseld (voice) and David Carl Heinz (piano, Precollege, class Prof. Sontraud Speidel), both also in the Lied class Prof. Hartmut Höll - Prof. Mitsuko Shirai, won 1st prize in age group IV with forwarding to the national competition.

At the ART-KLAVIЕR VIІІ International Online Piano Competition in Kiev, Ji Hun Hong (Master) won the Grand Prix, Silja Hofmann (Bachelor) won 1st prize and Han Xu (Bachelor) won 3rd prize in Category 2 (for music students). The winners, all students of the class of Prof. Roberto Domingos, will receive a concert engagement in Kiev.
