BIOGRAPHY

The Finnish bass-baritone Jussi Juola graduated from the master class at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden with Prof. Christiane Junghanns as well as in the Lied class of KS Prof. Olaf Bär. Previously, he completed music pedagogical vocal studies at the Oulu University of Applied Arts with Markku Liukkonen. He supplemented his studies by participating in master classes with Elly Ameling, Hartmut Höll, Thomas Hampson, Robert Holl, Konrad Richter, Jorma Hynninen, Ilkka Paananen, Graham Johnson and Rudolf Piernay, among others. He has won numerous competitions, including the International Mirjam Helin Competition in Helsinki and the International Competition "Franz Schubert and the Music of Modernity" in Graz, – together with the pianist Ine Kang, with whom he also performs regularly as a Lied duo. As a lied singer, Jussi Juola has performed at festivals such as the Heidelberger Frühling and the Schubert Week at the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin. He has worked with renowned pianists such as Bengt Forsberg, Gerold Huber and Hartmut Höll. Since 2020 he has been part of the opera ensemble of the Volkstheater Rostock. There he took on the roles of Collatinus (Britten: The Rape of Lucretia) and Bartolo (Mozart: Le nozze di Figaro), among others. In the Tampere Opera he was heard as Zuniga in Bizet's Carmen. He debuted with the same role at the Savonlinna Opera Festival in Finland in the summer of 2022. Jussi Juola is a Bayreuth Scholar of the Richard Wagner Association Leipzig 2019. His studies were supported by the Finnish Culture Foundation, and he received the Saxon State Scholarship.

The pianist Ine Kang studied piano with Prof. Pia Kaiser and song interpretation with Prof. Ulrike Siedel and KS Prof. Olaf Bär in the Lied class of the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden. She continued her studies in the master class of the Hochschule für Musik in Dresden and also attended numerous master classes of renowned Lied interpreters (Hartmut Höll, Daniel Fueter, Konrad Richter, Graham Johnson, Stephan Matthias Lademann, Peter Schreier, Robert Holl, Thomas Hampson, Brigitte Fassbaender, Elly Ameling) and concert pianists such as Oliver Kern and Gilead Mishory. Ine Kang has been awarded numerous prizes, including 1st prize at the Korea Philharmonic Orchestra Competition and 2nd prize at the Concorso Internazionale di Musica Euterpe. She also received the special prize at the Ensemble Competition of the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden and the "Vocallis Lied" prize at the Dutch festival of the same name. Ine Kang was invited to the Schubert Weekend at the Pierre Boulez Hall in Berlin as a piano scholarship holder and is a joint prize winner with Jussi Juola at the International Competition "Franz Schubert and the Music of Modernity" Graz. Since 2016 she has been a lecturer for vocal correpetition and piano at the Hochschule für Musik "Carl Maria von Weber" Dresden. Since May 2022, she has also served as deputy head of the piano teaching department.
